Parent/Community Organizing Leadership Development

small logo

Community organizing and Leadership Development were developed to facilitate capacity building while teaching residents how to take leadership roles in decision-making for their neighborhood.
With continuous training, residents are taught who and how to address community issues and concerns, to conduct outreach, identify and recruit new members, and develop neighborhood activities for groups to work on.
Some issues accomplished by residents over the years are:

  • The placement of speed bumps within the neighborhood.
  • The replacement of missing neighborhood street signs.
  • Continued or ongoing replacement of street lights throughout the neighborhood.
  • Constant contact with the city’s community improvement division for issues such as un-boarded vacant homes, unkempt grass, unkempt lawns, vacant lots that require maintenance, abandoned vehicles, junk cars, unsightly debris along neighborhood streets and community wide clean-ups.

Each year the residents are involved with the development of activities for the National Night Out Celebration and the Neighborhood Christmas Party along with other community oriented activities.
CommOrg PicResidents are asked to continue their involvement of school parent meetings and visits, neighborhood watch meetings and leadership development programs.  Such programs build partnerships, teach conflict management, and provide guidance on how to take action.
